A Message from Below through the streets of montreal, we sought a disenchanted working class locked behind glass facades and numbing computer monitors. what we found was a sleepy urban center full of such diversity and playful architecture that a proposed intervention: "a message from below" revealed hidden intricacies and reactions to spatial relations one would not expect. equipped with extendable poles that were outfitted with interchangeable end pieces including a "rearview" mirror, hooks and clasped holders, we took to the streets with a roving collection of interested participants to engaged the public sphere of montreal from the ground level. our communication device, a small potted plant was attached to the various pole ends and extended toward windows and balconies so that people may take our gift of plant-life and magical notes attached to the pots. the result of our intervention was mixed to say the least. ranging from pure elation to confused looks and even hostile reactions, the act of giving someone a message from below turned out to be more powerful than we had anticipated. nonetheless beautiful in its process of communicae. visit our blog here ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
